Robert Leibowitz, MD, is a compassionate, board-certified hematologist and oncologist. Affectionately referred to by his patients as “Dr. Bob,” Dr. Leibowitz is the founder of Compassionate Oncology Medical Group in the Century City area of Los Angeles, California. He helps people with hematologic diseases and has dedicated his career to treating prostate cancer since 1998.
Dr. Leibowitz began his college education and was accepted to medical school after only three years of undergraduate study. He earned his medical degree with honors at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana. Dr. Leibowitz moved on to Chicago, where he completed his internship and residency at Rush University Medical Center (formerly Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center). From there, Dr. Leibowitz completed a fellowship through the Harvard Medical School at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Leibowitz is a pioneer of two treatments for prostate cancer, including Dr. Bob’s Triple Hormone Blockade® and Finasteride Maintenance® therapy, a noninvasive treatment for clinically localized prostate cancer. In 1998, Dr. Leibowitz was the first to use weekly low-dose chemotherapy, involving three weeks on and one week off treatment. Furthermore, he was the first to use a high-dose testosterone replacement therapy for those with prostate cancer.
Dedicated to staying up-to-date with all treatment and advancements in oncology, Dr. Leibowitz is a member of several organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Physicians, American Society of Hematology, American Urological Association, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Leibowitz is internationally recognized as a leader in noninvasive treatments and clinical prostate cancer research and looks forward to treating patients in the greater Los Angeles area.
